Arthur’s Steakhouse, Jerry Barakat’s new venture designed as a fine-dining steak restaurant, is scheduled to open April 20. It will open in space previously shared by Jasmine’s-Sesame’s, which is being shifted further west to join with Barakat’s Jerry B’s piano bar.
UPDATE: BENE VITA During public school spring break we like to treat our fifth-grader to some vacation-type lunch places with the worker bees (mom and dad). We took a little trip to Italy this time and she was very excited. She remembered the TV commercials from the Food Network and Bene Vita’s funky clock sign. We remembered and took advantage of the 20 or so bargain lunch specials at $7.95. Our specials came with an Italian soaked salad (or Caeser), and for 50 cents more our girl played it safe with a cup of Angus tenderloin soup in veal stock (among other choices). All come with toasted ciabatta cheese bread. The bees enjoyed a perfect pair of lobster and blue crab cakes in a lemon garlic sauce and the tried-and-true beef and sausage lasagna. For little miss, she ventured into to the adult side and dived into a serving of beef tips with pasta rags, portobello mushrooms in a thick, rich roasted tomato sauce. The peach tea quenched us, and a “bug killer” (a mixture of three fountain sodas) from the children’s menu amused her. We couldn’t help but share all these great dishes and savored the different flavors and quality of ingredients. And, after asking about “what’s that burlee stuff you see on TV,” we capped it with a dark chocolate creme brulee. We reminded our daughter, “Our parents never did anything like this for us.” A round of hugs for the bees. 3701 Old Cantrell Road. Full bar. CC. $$-$$$. 666-8482. L Mon.-Fri., D daily.
