The Italian Couple has returned. Michael and Yuli Waters, a real Italian couple who in the early 1990s opened an Italian restaurant in Little Rock on 12th Street west of downtown — choosing Little Rock because it was the home of President Bill Clinton — have reopened at the same location, 2618 W. 12th St.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The phone number is 372-4448.

“Little Rock is our second home, really,” Michael Waters said about returning. “Our customers are not just customers, they are friends. We’re not doing this just for a living. It’s a lot of fun and we love people and like to socialize and meet new friends.”

He said they chose to return to their previous spot because it was a family-run business with reasonably priced food, many improvements had been made around the building and neighborhood, and they weren’t wanting to invest “thousands and thousands” in a place in West Little Rock or some other spot.

Waters says the restaurant will begin offering Italian wines and Italian beers within two weeks.
