What's cooking, Nov. 27

More than 50 teams will compete in the “World's Best Duck Gumbo” cook-off at the Wings Over the Prairie Festival in Stuttgart on Saturday. The cook-off, open only to those 21 and older, begins at 11 a.m. A $20 entry fee allows entrants access to gumbo samples from all participating teams, at least as long as supplies last. Party band Typhoid Mary will perform at the cook-off, which, traditionally, has a pretty serious party vibe.

Cranford's Fresh World, the White Hall-based grocery chain, has taken over two former Harvest Foods in Little Rock. The stores, located on Cantrell in Riverdale and on Rodney Parham in West Little Rock, remain open while Cranford's restructures pricing and fixtures. Look for new signs in January and grand re-openings likely in February.

It appears that New York, NY Deli has gone out of business. A sign on the door of the Shackleford location thanks customers for their patronage. The phone number listed for the restaurant has been disconnected, as has the phone for the Conway location.
