What's Cooking, Nov. 1

by and

n Dong Lee, the former chef/owner of Hanaroo Sushi Bar, has opened a new sushi restaurant, Bullo Eastern Flames, at 7710 Cantrell Road. Along with sushi, the restaurant features a hibachi grill, teriyaki dishes and other traditional Japanese fare. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner from Monday through Thursday, and 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

n Another sushi restaurant, Sushi Cafe, will open in the Heights at 5823 Kavanaugh Blvd. after Thanksgiving. Owner Robert Tju, a former waiter at Valentine's Restaurant, tells us the restaurant will lean more towards fusion-style east-meets-west food than traditional Japanese cuisine. In addition to a full sushi menu, he'll feature fresh oysters, mussels, Kobe steak and lamb chops. Tju also says he'll carry an extensive wine list, all the sake available in the United States and at least 28 different kinds of vodka. The restaurant will have a soft opening on Nov. 15.
