What's cooking, March 1

Dave and Ray’s Downtown Diner has begun serving all-you-can-eat catfish on Friday and Saturday nights, adding the weekend dinner to its weekday breakfast and lunch buffet offerings.

Dave Bisceglia and Ray Jones, who have been in the area restaurant business for several years, took over CJ’s Cafeteria in late 2005. Bisceglia ran Regas Grill and then worked for local restaurateur Jerry Barakat running Gaucho’s Grill and opening Jasmine’s and Sesame’s. Jones was the executive chef at Jasmine’s and Sesame’s before the pair bought CJ’s and began serving breakfast and lunch.

The lunch buffet features eight vegetables and four meats and the offerings change daily. With the addition of serving weekend nights, we’re told that plans are to obtain a beer and wine license.

Dave and Ray’s is at 824 W. Capitol Ave. The hours are 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. weekdays and 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The phone number is 372-8816.
