Boulevard Bread's Scott McGehee and Sonia Schaefer have signed a letter of intent on a space in the Riviera building in Riverdale where they plan to house Big Orange, a new restaurant concept that Schaefer, who's long been McGehee's bakery chef, will run. According to McGehee, the space will feature a big, open kitchen and a bar with a pastry area attached. Traditional breakfast and brunch will be a focus, with European/Mediterranean food for lunch. In the evening, the plan is for the restaurant to evolve into a lounge-y wine bar. McGehee says his efforts are currently tied up in gearing up his Napoli-style pizza joint, Za-Za Fine Salad and Wood-Oven Pizza Company, for an April opening in the Heights Theater, with Big Orange to follow sometime thereafter.
