UAMS Orthopaedics Department

Receives $40,000 Educational Grant

LITTLE ROCK — The Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received a $40,000 educational grant from Memphis-based medical device company Smith & Nephew.

“We are thankful that Smith & Nephew has placed an emphasis on education and has chosen to assist our students in advancing their studies,” said Richard Nicholas, M.D., chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the UAMS College of Medicine.

The grant will provide funding for the department’s resident physicians, fellows and surgeons to conduct research projects and attend professional meetings. It also will allow for improvements to the department’s library and for purchases of educational material.

Smith & Nephew is a global medical technology business specializing in orthopaedic reconstruction, orthopaedic trauma and clinical therapies, endoscopy, and advanced wound management products. The company has more than 8,500 employees and operates in 33 countries.
