Groundbreaking Ceremony to Mark Major Expansion Of UAMS Medical Center

Little Rock--Wednesday Oct. 11 at 10:30 a.m. there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for a 500,000-square-foot hospital expansion, located south of Ward Tower at the site where the old student dormitory was imploded in February. The 10-level hospital expansion will include 174 adult beds, with space for future growth, an emergency department, clinical lab, radiology department, additional surgical and interventional suites, an intensive care unit, an intermediate care unit and other services.

In addition to the groundbreaking, tours of the construction site can be arranged. Concrete is now being poured for the hospital expansion and adjacent Psychiatric Research Institute and parking deck.

In attendance will be UAMS Chancellor I. Dodd Wilson, M.D., University of Arkansas System President B. Alan Sugg, Ph.D., Richard Pierson, vice chancellor for clinical programs and executive director of UAMS Medical Center, UAMS supporters and employees.

The ceremony will be held inside the construction area in front of the hospital’s Ward Tower. Parking is available in the North Parking Deck on Markham Street. Representatives from the Office of Communications and Marketing will direct you to the groundbreaking site.
