HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (1966) 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 Cartoon Network (Comcast Ch. 33) In the classic Christmas tale, the dastardly Grinch sets out to steal Christmas from the innocent Whos down in Whoville. Featuring illustrations by the legendary Chuck Jones, script by the legendary Dr. Seuss, and narration by the legendary Boris Karloff, it’s understandably a legend, one that many Gen-Xers hold close to their hearts. OLIVE, THE OTHER REINDEER (1999) 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25 Cartoon Network (Comcast Ch. 33) Here, in this new animated classic, a spunky little dog named Olive (voiced by Drew Barrymore) mishears the “All of the other reindeer” line in “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and takes it as a call from Santa that he needs her help. With the assistance of a helpful penguin, she makes her way to the North Pole and must indeed save Christmas from a disgruntled postman who — tired of carrying heavy bags of mail during the holiday season — sets out to ruin it forever. A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1938) 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 Turner Classic Movies (Comcast Ch. 30) The MGM rendition of the Charles Dickens classic, with Victorian sets and costumes. Reginald Owen as Scrooge. EBBIE (1995) 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 Lifetime (Comcast Ch. 48) A greedy female department store owner, Elizabeth “Ebbie” Scrooge (Susan Lucci), in the pivotal role. MR. MAGOO’S CHRISTMAS CAROL (1962) 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24 Cartoon Network (Comcast Ch. 33) ?n this animated turn, Mr. Magoo plays Scrooge. SANFORD AND SON: EBENEZER SANFORD 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24 TV Land (Comcast Ch. 55) In this episode from the TV show “Sanford and Son,” junkyard owner Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx) gets the Scrooge treatment. A DOG’S CHRISTMAS CAROL (1998) 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25 Cartoon Network (Comcast Ch. 33) A grumpy old bulldog is visited by the spirits of three dogs who teach him the true meaning of Christmas. A CHRISTMAS CAROL: THE MUSICAL (1997) 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25 KLRT (Comcast Ch. 13, Broadcast Ch. 16) The musical version, animated. Tim Curry as Scrooge, with the voice of Whoopi Goldberg. NBA BASKETBALL Miami Heat at Los Angeles Lakers 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 25 KATV (Comcast Ch. 8, Broadcast Ch. 7) Is all that holiday fare wiping you out? Take a break with the biggest sports event of the day, and maybe of the basketball season so far: Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, former teammates on the Lakers, now on opposing teams, each supposedly with a burr in the behind about the other, meeting for the first time since O’Neal was dealt to Miami. See which one is the bigger Christmas Day Scrooge.
