The following Arkansas institutions were the top beneficiaries of foundation grants in 2003, according to data compiled this year by The Foundation Center in New York. (Most of the grants were announced in the Times 2004 philanthropy issue, but the ranking was not then available.)



1. The University of Arkansas Foundation, 24 grants totaling $9.2 million.

2. Children’s Educational Opportunity Foundation America, 1 grant worth $8.3 million.

3. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, 8 grants totaling $6.9 million.

4. YMCA of Warren and Bradley County, 1 grant worth $4.3 million.

5. University of Arkansas at Monticello, 21 grants totaling $3.9 million.

6. Positive Atmosphere Reaches Kids (P.A.R.K.), 6 grants totaling $2.7 million.

7. Crisis Center for Battered Women, 1 grant worth $2.6 million.

8. William J. Clinton Presidential Center, 10 grants totaling $2.4 million.

9. John Brown University, 4 grants totaling $1.8 million.

10. Children First America, 7 grants totaling $1.7 million.

11. Arkansas Department of Education, 1 grant worth $1.4 million.

12. University of the Ozarks, 4 grants totaling $1.4 million.

13. Harvey and Bernice Jones Center for Families, 2 grants totaling $1.38 million.

14. Winrock International Institute for Agricultural Development, 1 grant worth $1.3 million.

15. Harding University, 1 grant worth $1.17 million.

16. City of Rogers, 1 grant worth $1.16 million.

17. Arkansas Arts Center, 7 grants totaling $1.1 million.
