- 'HOLLYWOOD' YOUTH: At the Rep.
Nicole Capri, the director of education at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, has brought together 70 performers, from grade schoolers up to college students, for “Hollywood and Broadway on Main!” The revue of some of the big moments in theater and film will be performed on the Rep’s Main Stage Thursday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Oct. 29.
Robert Hupp, the producing artistic director of the Rep, says the show is an expansion of the Rep’s programming. “Audiences will really enjoy the tremendous entertainment these young artists bring to our stage.”
The performers are from throughout the state and either participated in the Rep’s summer musical program or are in classes at the Rep now, Capri said. She promises a show that audiences “will not believe. The professionalism of these kids is amazing.”
The show includes monologues and musical numbers from such films or musicals as “The Wizard of Oz,” “Chicago,” “The Lion King,” “42nd Street,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Hairspray,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “South Pacific,” “Oklahoma,” “A Chorus Line,” “Rent” and more.
Capri has also directed more than 100 professional, university-based and youth-oriented productions across the U.S. She returned to her hometown of Little Rock two years ago and created the Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Program for the Rep. Leslie Harper serves as musical director.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Friday’s show includes a post-show reception with the cast in the lobby. Tickets are $10 and available through the Rep box office, 378-0405.
