TITLE SHOT: For Jermain Taylor.
If you can’t make it to Las Vegas to see Arkansan Jermain Taylor fight Bernard Hopkins for the world middleweight boxing championship on Saturday, July 16, there are some local alternatives where you can join in with other fans.
The Riverdale 10 movie theater at 2516 Cantrell Road has worked out an agreement with HBO Sports, which is offering the fight via pay-per-view, to show the title bout on its largest screen, a 50-footer that will capture the pugilism in all its glory.
Tickets are already on sale, and run $27 for adults and $20 for children and seniors. Call 296-9468.
The fight card will start at 8 p.m., and Taylor and Hopkins are scheduled to go on at about 10 p.m., boxing for 12 rounds. If Taylor wins, popcorn is “on the house,” according to Riverdale 10’s owner, Randall Shelton, but anyone attending automatically gets a discount coupon for a regular movie ticket.
Legends Sports Bar and Grill at 9700 Rodney Parham Road will be hosting a fight party Saturday co-sponsored by KABZ-FM, 103.7 “The Buzz.” The club will open at 5 p.m., and admission will be $20. Call Legends 537-2357 or visit www.legendslittlerock.com.
HBO will be offering the fight through its cable and satellite affiliates for $49.95.
