Surprise 20th Anniversary Celebration for Chancellor Disguised as UAMS State of the Campus Address
UAMS Chancellor I. Dodd Wilson, M.D., thinks he will be presenting the annual UAMS State of the Campus address, but he will actually be attending a surprise celebration honoring him for his 20 years at UAMS – first as UAMS College of Medicine dean and since 2000 as chancellor. As he begins his annual report detailing the successes of the past year, he will be interrupted.
Dr. Wilson does not know about the presentation. For more information, call Leslie Taylor at 686-8998 (cell: 951-7260).
Event will feature a presentation by UAMS faculty members and administrators to Wilson. Special guests include his family, University of Arkansas System President B. Alan Sugg, Ph.D., and “Elvis.” His children – including singer/songwriter Dan Wilson, lead singer of the band Semisonic whose most recent songwriting credits include songs on the Dixie Chicks’ album Taking the Long Way, also are being secretly flown in for the event. He will perform. There will also be a six-foot cake for guests to enjoy that is a replica of the campus, complete with all buildings including its colleges, hospital and centers of excellence.
The event will be noon Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Fred W. Smith Conference Center (12th floor of the Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute on the UAMS campus). Parking is available in the parking deck north of the Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, near the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Jack Stephens Drive. Take the sky bridge from the parking deck to the 2nd floor of the Spine Institute and then take the elevator to the 12th floor.
