Once again this year during the Arkansas Literary Festival, the Arkansas Times is proud to sponsor Pub or Perish, a cross-breeding of the classic down-in-the-gutter pub crawl and the jackets-with-elbow-patches literary reading. The idea is simple: Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, we’ll visit three River Market-area bars in a little over three hours, with local and festival authors reading at each stop. We’ll have 15 minutes between venues to pay the tab and pack up the podium, and then it’s on to the next — a Faulknerian test of literary prowess and drinking ability.
Though the schedule is still a bit up in the air due to a few last-minute snafus, we are happy to announce that returning this year as a whistlestop on the Pub or Perish Express is the always-welcoming Underground Pub, located at 500 President Clinton Ave.
Several five-minute open mic slots will be available throughout the night on a first-come/first-served basis, so be sure to bring your fiction or poetry (and some cash for a dose of liquid courage).
