- NEW LOOK: Park Plaza.
The competition in this category will no doubt be tougher next year, when Midtowne Little Rock and the Pleasant Ridge Towne Center should be open for business.
But Park Plaza reigns supreme again this year as Best Shopping Center. It is in the middle of a mall-wide spiff-up that will brighten and update both inside and out. New tile floors, better lighting and graphics, a new food court and airier open spaces are among the improvements. Several stores, such as the Limited, Victoria’s Secret, the Gap and Banana Republic, are doing their own remodeling as well.
The re-do will completely change the main south-side entrance; there will even be some new, outside-facing store space built (tenants TBA), according to Gary Blakeney, the mall’s marketing director. The work is scheduled to be completed by November, and Park Plaza will mark the occasion with a celebration that will include exhibits from overseas communities involved in the Sister Cities Commission.
