Kino International this week has released a four-disc DVD box set of the Discovery Times channel documentary series “Off to War,” produced by Little Rock natives Brent and Craig Renaud.
The 10-episode series, which aired in 2005, simultaneously followed Arkansas National Guard soldiers from Clarksville during their deployment to Iraq and the experiences of their families back home. The Renaud brothers took turns filming in Iraq and Arkansas, which allowed them to capture both ends of emotional telephone conversations, for instance.
“Off to War” won an Overseas Press Club Award and is nominated for an International Documentary Association Award for best series. The New York Times called the series “[the] most intimate and memorable look at Americans in the Iraqi conflict.”
The “Off to War” DVD box set will retail for $49.95 and includes previously unreleased special features, including a memorial film, extra scenes and a commentary track by the film’s directors and soldiers.
