The big art event this weekend is Eureka Springs’ 2006 Arts Eye View set for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 22 through Sept. 24, and featuring new public art panels at the ARTERY.

Eye View opens Friday with Eureka Springs School of the Arts’ working artist studio tour at 13 stops featuring pottery, photography, painting, woodworking, weaving, sculpture and jewelry. Artists include Laura Waters and Jim Wallace; Doug Stowe; Richard Quick; Larry Mansker; Karen Foster; Julie Kahn Valentine; Eleanor Lux; Lorna and Craig Trigg-Hirsch; Don Underwood; L.J. Smole; Jodi Stephensen and Joanna Hanna. Locations will be marked by Arts Eye View banners.

At the 2006 Artery and Centennial Mural Restoration Happening, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, a restored mural of the history of Eureka painted by the late Louis Freund and others at 2 N. Main St., on the Chandler building, will be dedicated and 28 new panels will go up at the ARTERY’s public art display at One North Main parking lot downtown. Water is the theme for this year’s group of panels — which are 4-by-8-feet tall — and participating artists include John Deering of Little Rock, Susan Morrison and Mary Springer of Eureka Springs and others. Proceeds from panel sales go to the artists and an artists’ trust.

The Mosaic Dance Trio will perform “Healing Water” at 5:45 p.m. at the ARTERY, a performance by musician Opal Fly and the Swatters at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the New Delhi Café, and a tribute to John Phillips Sousa by the Bella Vista Community Band at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium.

Before the main events Saturday night there will be kids’ events at the Community Center; a poetry reading at 4 p.m. by Van Brock and Flavia Lobo Brock at the Harris Art Garden and Gallery, 184 N. Main; tiramisu samplings and jam sessions.

Studio tours continue and an “art bazaar” is set for Sunday in front of the ARTERY and Lucky 13 Cinema Mural.
