Larry the Cable Guy will bring his country-flavored “Git-R-Done” and “Lord, I Apologize” comedy routines to Hot Springs’ Summit Arena on Sunday, June 5. Showtime is 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $40.25.
Danny Whitney, a.k.a. Larry the Cable Guy, has taken off as a solo comedy act after touring with Jeff Foxworthy and friends on the multimillion-dollar grossing Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Then came Larry’s debut CD, “Lord, I Apologize,” which has stayed in the Top 20 of the comedy record charts for the past four years. TV, DVDs, “Comedy Central” appearances and more have made Larry a household name. His latest CD, “The Right to Bare Arms,” debuted in March.

Farmers Market opens on Thursday nights
The popular Tuesday and Saturday Farmers Markets at the River Market add an additional shopping time, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, to the schedule beginning this week and running through the end of August. Farm-fresh produce will be available at the market, while Market Hall and its food vendors also will remain open with extended hours.

Murry’s Dinner Playhouse opens a new show this week, “The Lucky O’Learys,” a musical comedy that centers on an Irish mother who needs cash immediately because she’s about to lose her apartment to a condo conversion. While she stakes her life savings on lottery tickets, her luck takes a bad turn with the arrival of her ex-husband and her beloved son, who’s planning on marrying an Italian girl. Buzzing about ’cue
The first Buzz BBQ Cookoff Contest, featuring a free barbecue tasting, will be held Friday on North Little Rock’s Main Street near the Arkansas River bridge. Barbecue teams will be smoking meat beginning at noon, and the party will turn to live bands on a stage from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Admission is free, and KABZ-FM, 103.7, will broadcast live from the event beginning with Tommy Smith’s morning show from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. For more information, call 791-0901.
Funk hits the river
The Peabody RiverTop party will bring in the popular Memphis throwback dance band Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster for its weekly shindig at the downtown Little Rock hotel from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 3. Admission is $5 for ages 21 and up. Dr. Zarr’s has regularly played the Peabody Memphis Rooftop Party and features favorite hits of the ’70s and ’80s, complete with the look of the era. Midgets and more
Midget wresting returns to Ray Winder Field on Friday, while 1958 replica caps will be given away to the first 1,000 paying adults on Saturday as the Arkansas Travelers take on Midland in the start of a weeklong home stand. The midget wrestling precedes Friday’s game and starts at 6:45 p.m. Kids can also run the bases at the game’s conclusion. Saturday’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s game will start at 2 p.m.

Dash with Dinos
The Museum of Discovery in the River Market district holds its annual family fun fund-raising event on Saturday with the 6th annual Dino Dash and Discovery Fest. The run requires a $25 registration; late registration starts at 6:30 a.m. and the certified 5K race begins at 8 a.m. The 1K fun run is at 9 a.m. Prizes will be given to the largest team, most creative costumes and other categories. Twisters bring in ‘Star’
The Arkansas Twisters, who won their most recent home game for their first win of the season, are back at Alltel Arena with several promotions around Saturday’s game with Memphis. Arkadelphia’s Jody Evans, a “Nashville Star” finalist, will perform in concert after the game, and Ted Alford bobblehead dolls will be given away to the first 1,000 fans.
