THURSDAY 9/4

New York punks Love or Parish perform at White Water with local garage-rock band the Weisenheimers, 9 p.m., $5. Local rock cover group Typhoid Mary headlines at Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. Ted Ludwig kicks off his busy night at the Capital Bar and Grill with bassist Joe Cripps, 5 p.m., free. Later, the duo becomes a trio at the Afterthought, 8 p.m., $5. The Boondogs play their semi-regular gig at Box Turtle as part of Hillcrest's “Shop 'n' Sip,” 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., free. Comedian Dale Jones headlines at the Loony Bin, 8 p.m., $6. He'll be there all weekend.

Soul standout Nicky Parish headlines at Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. Easy Street hosts a rare show featuring Sherwood garage rockers Queen Jealousy, Little Rock punks the STD's and the Death Sound, 7 p.m., $5; the show's open to all ages. At Cornerstone, Midlife Crisis marries the blues with down home rock 'n' roll. Seven-string whiz Ted Ludwig returns to the Capital Bar and Grill with his trio, 8 p.m., free. It's “First Friday” at Juanita's, 10 p.m. Barrett Baber strums his acoustic guitar and sings covers at Flying Saucer, 9 p.m., $3. In Fayetteville, Chicago's famed comedy improv troupe Second City performs its “Deface the Nation” political revue, 8 p.m., $20-$32.

 

SATURDAY 9/6

Downtown music hosts a night of punk with That Thing That Always Explodes, Cinema Hurt, Androids of Ex-Lovers and ASG, 8 p.m., $6. Local party band Weakness for Blondes plays Sticky Fingerz, 9 p.m., $5. At West End, Big Stack does rock covers from the last three decades. DJs Platinumb and Justin Sane keep it moving in the disco at Discovery, while Balance plays head-bobbers in the lobby, midnight, $10. Local jam-rock band Freeverse headlines at White Water, 9 p.m., $5. The Dunbar Community Garden raises money to buy a windmill with a benefit featuring Daniel Petty, Brother Jeff Grimmett and the Winston Family Orchestra at Easy Street, 8 p.m., $5. Local rock cover act Jet 420 headlines at Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. Cross the Whistler of Southhaven, Miss., blends roots rock and the blues at Cornerstone, 9 p.m., $5. Memphis country-punks Joecephus and the George Jones Massacre play late night at Midtown, 12:30 a.m., $5.
