In Spa City at Maxine's, buzz-y brother act the Receiver offers a midnight set of dreamy, post-rock, free. Fayetteville-based modern rockers Thanks for Nothing headline at Cajun's, 9:30 p.m., $5.



Superstar DJ Irene headlines a big bill at Revolution, with the Funk Commission, Jared Lawler and Ewell, Sleepy Genius and Blake Taylor opening, 8 p.m., $10-$16 (all military, police and fire personnel get in free before 10:30 p.m.). Consistently one of Central Arkansas's most engaging acts, Velvet Kente offers an intimate show at White Water Tavern, 10 p.m., $5. Local reggae vets One Stone hold it down at Juanita's, 10 p.m. The Arkansas River Blues Society hosts a blues competition at Cornerstone, 6 p.m., $5; it continues on Saturday. Local blues-rock champ Shannon Boshears stops in at Prost in the River Market, 9 p.m., $5. Long-time local jam band Mojo Depot headlines at Cajun's, 9 p.m., $5. In Hot Springs at Maxine's, Fayetteville country-rock standouts Charliehorse perform, 9 p.m., $5. Tonya Leeks sings and plays sax at the Afterthought with support from her backing band, 9 p.m., $7.



At Sticky Fingerz, St. Louis' Fundamental Elements blends pop-rock with modern soul; Stars Go Dim opens, 9 p.m., $5. Local jazz guitar phenom Ted Ludwig shares a bill with Milt Jackson, Mike Eubanks and the New Generation at Pinnacle Mountain State Park's annual the Pinnacle of Music Festival, 10 a.m., $10 (children under 10 get in free). Local trio Parachute Woman plays a long set of roots-oriented jams at the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7. Country music fans with money gather for a Governor's Mansion fund-raiser to hear Tracy Byrd at the mansion, 5 p.m., $100. It's a night of death and doom metal at Downtown Music with VORE, Golgotha, Blapherian and Razor Fate, 8 p.m., $6. Late night at Discovery Justin Sane mans the disco, while Balance spins in the lobby, midnight, $10.
