FAMILY: Married for the past 18 years to wife Bobye; father of nine children.
EDUCATION: Took courses in science and biology at the University of Maryland but never finished his degree. After joining the Army in 1987, learned Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif.
RESUME: While in the military, served as an analyst and linguist with the National Security Agency at the Joint Intelligence Operations center in Maryland. Elected in 2000 to the House of Representatives. Elected in 2002 to the state Senate from District 35. Ran unsuccessfully to unseat U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln in 2004, winning 44 percent of the vote. Serves on the governor’s advisory board for TEEN PACT, a group that steers Christian youth toward careers in politics and government. Works as a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Elder at Bible Grace Fellowship Church in Springdale and ordained as a Southern Baptist minister in 1996.
