- HOOTIE FOR THE HOLIDAYS: At Alltel.
They released a live album in August, and tonight Hootie and the Blowfish bring the real thing to Alltel Arena as part of the Junior League of Little Rock’s annual Holiday House shopping and fund-raising event.
“They just came out with a new album, so they’re promoting that, and they’ll be playing all the hits we’ve all had a great time to,” said Kimberly Bowman, publicity chair for the event.
The Grammy-winning Charleston, S.C., band members — vocalist Darius Rucker, guitarist Mark Bryan, bassist Dean Felber and drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld — been together since they met as freshmen at the University of South Carolina. They broke onto the national scene in 1994 with “Cracked Rear View,” which sold 16 million copies and spawned several major hit singles, including “I Only Wanna Be with You,” “Hold My Hand” and “Let Her Cry.”
They’ve put out six studio albums since then, including a greatest hits compilation in 2004, which haven’t done as well.
But the band has kept on, and their latest studio album is 2005’s “Looking for Lucky,” released on their own Sneaky Long Records label.
On Aug. 12, 2005, the band recorded their Annual Homegrown Concert Event at a stadium in Charleston. That concert became the basis of a live DVD and CD called “LIVE In Charleston: The Homegrown Concert Event,” released last summer, which includes their three biggest hits as well as a cover of Tom Waits’ “I Hope That I Don’t Fall in Love with You.”
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $40.75 and $60.75 (this price includes a VIP party before the concert), and are available through Ticketmaster or the arena box office (975-7575). Holiday House’s 140 vendors will be open before the concert, and a ticket to the concert includes admission to the sale. For more information, contact the Junior League at 375-5557.
