Citadel Communications and KPIR, “Power 92,” are expecting more than 12,000 people to crowd into the Riverfest Amphitheatre on Friday, June 16, for the Juneteeth Celebration.
The show, starting at 4 p.m. and running until around 11 p.m., will feature some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B, courtesy of Power 92. And someone is going to win a couple of floor seats in a drawing that will send them to Memphis’ FedEx Forum to join Power 92’s Broadway Joe Booker for the Jermain Taylor middleweight championship fight against Winky Wright on Saturday, June 17.
Saturday’s performers include Project Pat, Kelis, Lil’ JJ, Mack 10, Sammie, Cherish, Tyte Wurk, 214, Yo’ Gotti, Rasheeda, Trya, E-Dubb, Young Dro, Young Joc, J-Mizz, Cadillac Don with J-Money, XXZotic, G-Mack, Young Hogs, Take Charge, Dyboliq, Souf-N-Gutta, Playa Mone, Black Trump, Jotorius and the Boss Click.
Juneteeth, officially celebrated on June 19, represents the day word reached Texas after the Civil War in 1865 that African-American slaves were free.
