Mitch Mustain will take the field for the University of Arkansas next fall. Never have Razorback fans had greater expectations of a freshman football player. There is reason for optimism. The Springdale quarterback was named national high school football player of the year by Parade magazine, Gatorade and USA Today. His high school coach said he was the best quarterback ever to come through Arkansas. If not for the state’s having the middleweight champion of the world in residence, Mustain might have been named Arkansas’s top athlete by Arkansas Times readers while he was still a senior in high school. Instead, he was a runner-up in the Times’ “Best of” competition. Razorback fans hope that’s the last time he finishes anywhere below first.
