Those thousands of kids you see wrapped in white robes this weekend, June 17-19, are in town for the the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) World Championships at the Statehouse Convention Center.
At an opening ceremony at 8 p.m. Friday at Alltel Arena, 35 people will attempt to become Taekwondo masters and G.K. Lee will seek his eighth-degree black belt. Tickets are $10 through Ticketmaster.
Competition in the Top 10 Tournament of Champions will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the convention center and the ATA Songahm children’s championships will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. ATA adult championships in all ranks, including X-Treme competition, will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets to Saturday and Sunday competitions are $8.
