Geriatrician Added to St. Bernards Senior Services Staff

Thomas Mulligan, M.D has joined the staff of St. Bernards Medical Center and will serve as the medical director for Senior Services. Dr. Mulligan will see patients at the St. Bernards Senior Health Clinic, a facility which provides comprehensive health assessments, consultations and treatments for senior adults.

He comes to St. Bernards from the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he served as the Ruth S. Jewett Professor of Medicine. There, Mulligan was chief of geriatric medicine and director of the geriatric research, education and clinical center at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville. Previously, he served on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and practiced at the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, where he was founder of the geriatrics program.

Mulligan earned his medical degree from New York University. He is board certified in geriatric medicine and internal medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and American Geriatrics Society.

He was a founding member and president of the Virginia Geriatrics Society and is a member of both the American Federation of Aging Research and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.

Mulligan has received numerous awards for his work in geriatrics and medical education and has conducted research in a number of areas related to aging. He has authored nearly 100 articles in scholarly publications and has contributed chapters to more than a dozen medical books.

He will begin seeing patients at the St. Bernards Senior Clinic, 303 East Matthews, Suite 202, beginning Feb. 1. Appointments may be made by calling 933-6595 or 800-738-7421.
