Federal official to speak on pandemic planning

Little Rock, AR -- Admiral John O. Agwunobi, HHS Assistant Secretary of Health, will address the Arkansas State Board of Health concerning National Pandemic Influenza planning following his meeting with state public health officials on Arkansas' pandemic efforts.  The meeting will be at 11:00AM at the Freeway Medical Center.

State and local response in the face of a pandemic is critical.  President Bush charged HHS Secretary Leavitt with bringing together state and local public health officials from across the nation to discuss their plans for a pandemic, and to help them improve pandemic planning at the community level.  Secretary Leavitt convened officials from every U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. December 5th in response to that call.  Secretary Leavitt and other HHS officials have attended more than 50 planning summits.  Governor Mike Huckabee held a press conference December 20 and charged his Department of Health and Human Services to prepare Arkansas.  The official U.S. government web site for information on pandemic flu and avian influenza is
