Fayetteville Arts Festival starts Thursday

THURSDAY 9/6

The Ted Ludwig Jazz Trio performs its weekly gig at the Afterthought, 8 p.m., $5. Blue-eyed soulman Big John Miller plays for the Cajun's crowd, 9 p.m., $5. Country singer Stoney LaRue headlines a show at Sticky Fingerz. Mickey and the Motorcars open, 9 p.m., $8 adv., $10 d.o.s. The Fayetteville Arts Festival kicks off at George's Majestic Lounge with performances by Charliehorse and Benjamin del Shreve, 6 p.m., $25. Author and senior NPR correspondent Juan Williams gives the keynote address at an international symposium on Central High at 6 p.m. at the Clinton Presidential Library. FRIDAY 9/7

Rows and rows of hot rods will be on display at the monthly Cruisin' in the Rock event, which takes place downtown in the River Market pavilions, 6 p.m., free. Markham 801 hosts the First Friday Little Rock, a “Casino Night”-themed party featuring roulette, blackjack and craps tables and a DJ spinning dance music, 9 p.m. Hot Rod Van, a self-described “ultra-swinging hillbilly band,” plays Cajun's, 9 p.m., $5.

SATURDAY 9/8

Impressive local rockers the Munks do a long set at the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7. Magic Springs and Crystal Falls keep their concert series going with a show by the Memphis Soul Revue at the park's Timberwood Amphitheatre, 8 p.m., free with park admission ($44.99 for adults and $34.99 for kids). Funky jam band Outformation plays Sticky Fingerz, 9:30 p.m., $8. Singer/songwriters Graham Weber and Adam Carroll perform at White Water Tavern, 9 p.m., $5. Local DJs Balance and Dave McRoberts hold down the 1s and 2s in the disco at Discovery, where there's a weekly drag show after midnight. The music starts at midnight. Admission before then is $5, after it's $10.

WEDNESDAY 9/12

Local singer-songwriter Conrad Burnham, who currently fronts the melodic indie-rock band Winter Furs, plays a solo show at Cajun's, 5:30 p.m., free. Conway-based bluesy garage rockers Cephus plays Juanita's, 9 p.m., $7. For something different, try salsa lessons on Wednesday nights at Revolution, 7 p.m., free.
