- KEITH AND EZRA: Fishing for Christmas.
Besides a bar-room contribution to Nightflying’s 25th anniversary party on Thursday (see related story on this page), the Grammy Award-nominated duo Trout Fishing in America will have the stage to itself in a pair of family Christmas shows in Central Arkansas this weekend.
Trout Fishing, the Northwest Arkansas-based musical partnership of Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet, who have entertained adults and kids for more than two decades, will play Friday, Dec. 16, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4501 Rahling Road, in a benefit for the Arkansas River Valley Montessori School. Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets at the door are $15 (children ages 8 and younger will be admitted at no charge).
The group then entertains Saturday, Dec. 17, at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs. The show at the Klipsch Amphitheater begins at 3:30 p.m.
Credit Michael Tisserand of the New Orleans Gambit Weekly for the best synopsis on Trout Fishing: “If Tenacious D sang the collected works of Shel Silverstein, it might start to sound like the duo Trout Fishing in America.”
Grimwood’s and Idlet’s holiday release “Merry Fishes to All” was nominated for a 2005 Grammy –- the group’s second Grammy nomination for a “Best Musical Album for Children.” The CD has been named a Gold Award winner, recognizing the best children’s musical recordings available, in the 2005 National Parenting Publications Awards competition, and it was also named a 2004 Parents’ Choice Approved Award winner.
Trinity Presbyterian Church is one block south of the Hinson Road and Taylor Loop intersection. Garvan Woodland Gardens is on Arkridge Road, 3 1/2 miles from the U.S. 270 Bypass off Carpenter Dam Road.
