Though we’re leaving the long vowel mark over the “u” in “Nu” on the cutting room floor in our article (mostly to avoid reader confusion), it appears prominently as a design element in the logo of Nu Cuisine Lounge, hovering serenely over a signature blue square that contains the name. Asked why she got all phonetic in coming up with a handle for her place, co-owner Rebekah Hardin said that little mark plays a big role in setting the tone, even before diners ever walk in the door. “It sort of goes with that global nature,” Hardin said. “It has a sense of uniqueness to it. It’s not ‘N-E-W’ the way it’s always spelled in the English language. It establishes a stylistic uniqueness via the logo. Easy to spell, short name, people can just call it ‘Nu.’ ” We knu it all along.
