David Gordon Green's new one



Jon Love, a founding partner of the Village, is no longer associated with the southwest Little Rock venue. Blake Sandifer, now the sole owner, said recently that Love’s dream for the place just wasn’t coming together. “For the company to continue, it was something that had to happen,” he said. Sandifer, who owns the Village’s sound equipment and lights, added that he hopes to form various booking partnerships, while continuing to book shows himself. He recently brought R&B star Bobby Valentino and mercurial rapper DMX to town.

Rap duo Dre and Jontai, who received prominent exposure on a recent episode of MTV’s “My Super Sweet Sixteen” — starring Little Rock’s Alyson Walker — are in the studio completing their debut album. Their label head and manager, Familymade CEO Deja Blu, tell us that he’s in talks with three national labels to release the project in September.

Atkins native Chris Lemley will be featured at 11 a.m Sunday, July 29, in the first of a four-part CBS series on the World Series of Video Games. Lemley, a 21-year-old Hendrix student, is president and owner of Pandemic, which has been the dominant team of late in the gaming league. The CBS special will follow the WSVG’s recent stop in Louisville, where Lemley’s team took home first-place finishes in World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero 2. The tour continues in Toronto, Los Angles and Sweden.

The Counterlife, a post-punk quartet from Fayetteville that rose from the ashes of Kings of New England, will release its debut EP “Sing Song Sung” on Saturday, July 28, with a show at the Boom Boom Room in Fayetteville. The Good Fear support. Throughout August, the band will tour the West Coast and Midwest.

Little Rock native David Gordon Green’s highly anticipated big-budget foray will debut August 2008. “Pineapple Express,” the latest comedy from producer Judd Apatow and screenwriters Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, stars James Franco, Rosie Perez and Rogen. The film is billed as a buddy-flick action-comedy that apparently has a lot to do with weed and cars blowing up.
