NEWS MUSE: Sharon Douglas.
Musical satirist Sharon Douglas will perform two Broadway-styled cabaret shows at Nu Cuisine Lounge on Tuesday, July 12, with the restaurant featuring a special feast to accompany the shows.
The seatings, each accommodating 80 diners, will be at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Nu, 225 E. Markham St. Tickets are $100 each. Call 378-7500.
Along with both shows, Nu will offer a three-course prix fixe menu featuring Chef Paul Novicky’s signature global fusion cuisine, complete with wine pairings.
“What’s fun about performing in a space like Nu is that it creates a true cabaret atmosphere — that is, dinner followed by a show,” Douglas said. “This is the first time, to my knowledge, that such a thing has happened in Little Rock, other than at private events.”
Douglas adds that she’s devised a show that is “nothing but summer fun … some are songs I love that I’ve never had the opportunity to do before, like ‘When in Rome (I Do Like the Romans Do).’ There is a special song to the Arkansas bird of the hour, you know the one, and some light political satire, both national and local. Everything is musically designed to complement the altered state of having ingested such incredible food. It’s a really fun project.”
The Little Rock native has performed at such noted venues as Caroline’s in New York City, the Ritz Carlton in Washington, D.C., and at several London hot spots. Last November, she opened for Al Franken’s show at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.
