BOB DYLAN: They're playing his songs at Juanita's.
Sixteen top regional music acts will gather at Juanita’s Cantina Ballroom on Thursday, Sept. 29, for “Tangled Up in Bob: A celebration of the music of Bob Dylan.” The show benefits the Play It Again, Arkansas program that brings music instruments to public schools in the state.
The acts scheduled to perform Dylan songs are: Amy Garland, Barbara Rainey, Big John Miller Band, Brenda and Ellis, the Boondogs, Chris Lipsmeyer, Greg Spradlin, Len Holton, Liquid Groove Mojo, Mojo Depot, Parachute Woman, Runaway Planet, Salty Dogs, Sara Thomas and Weakness for Blondes.
Admission is $7, or free with the donation of a musical instrument, and the show is open to ages 18 and up. The show starts at 8:30 p.m.
Local promoter Tim Jones organized the show, with 2005 being considered the 40th anniversary of rock-poet Dylan “going electric” in releasing the albums “Bringing It All Back Home” and “Highway 61 Revisited.”
“For music as we know it, no event in 20th century American music has greater continuing resonance and relevance. It was a quantum leap, the big before-and-after; the great divide,” Jones said. “You can love him, hate him, or ignore him, but his shadow looms over every damn thing. Plus, the man is still alive and creatively vital.”
