What James says: You’re going to see a fanatical effort by the Razorbacks because they are going to be whipped into a frenzy by the coaching staff. This can be good or bad. You can come out and good things happen and you stay on a high, or bad things happen early and you go flat like a one-egg pudding.
The key for Arkansas being more competitive than in last year’s 70-17 loss at Los Angeles is the defense is drastically improved from the last time they played. They’re going to force Southern Cal to earn first down and touchdowns, where last year it was absolutely a track meet.
Arkansas’s defense must get an adequate rush on a new quarterback to force SC quarterback John David Booty to hurry his throws and not let the receivers have all day to get open in our secondary.
Offensively, Arkansas must consistently get first downs, move the football, eat up some of the clock, and they are going to have to protect the quarterback. Southern Cal is going to come after the quarterback whether it’s Robert Johnson or Mitch Mustain.
The pick: Arkansas fans will see a good football game, but Southern Cal is too talented and they have something to prove having lost the national championship last year and with this game being on national TV, Nebraska up next week and an opportunity for them to move up quickly in the rankings. 24-14, Southern Cal.
