Bruce James calls the Hogs

Friday’s game

Arkansas (4-6, 2-5 in SEC) at LSU (9-1, 6-1 in SEC)

Site: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge

Time: 1:30 p.m.

Radio/TV: The ARSN network will broadcast the game on radio affiliates. CBS (KTHV, Channel 11 in Little Rock) will broadcast the game nationally on television.

What James says: Arkansas fans are definitely excited about beating the two fabulous Mississippi teams the past two weeks. Now, we go down to LSU and it will really determine where we are. It’s a great situation for the Razorback football team because it’s their bowl game, it’s on national TV, against the third-ranked team in American. They can make amends for their pathetic showing against Southern Cal. However, LSU must win the football game to go to the SEC Championship Game. LSU Coach Les Miles has done a great job keeping this team together with all the tragedy of players losing homes and relatives in Hurricane Katrina, but they have not achieved offensively what they are capable of. Let’s hope they don’t get that great offensive game against us.

Key to the game: Stopping LSU’s passing attack. You’re going to see the biggest quarterback in the SEC (JaMarcus Russell) at 6-5, 250 pounds and fairly mobile. We’ll put the all-out rush on him and we’ll be playing man in the secondary. The key matchup will be our defensive backs against those great receivers.

The pick: Arkansas will go in sky-high, Houston Nutt will have them ready, but LSU is very talented defensively and should be able to control us and win the football game 28-17.

Watch former Arkansas All-American defensive end Bruce James along with David Bazzel and host Steve Sullivan on KATV, Channel 7’s “SportsWeek” Sundays at 10:30 p.m.
