What James says: Vanderbilt is a very dangerous ball club, and if Arkansas should go on the road and lose, it will be devastating to the team, to say the least. The big question for this week is, does Vanderbilt have anything left after playing well on the road at Michigan and Alabama?
On Mitch Mustain’s first start last week: His first start is what you’d expect out of a high school player’s first time out: It was not spectacular at all. He looked a little green in spots, and we all have to remember that he was handed a situation with an easy football team (Utah State). Fortunately it wasn’t an Auburn or a Southern Cal. The Hogs’ offense seems to be sputtering no matter who’s quarterbacking.
Did you see any positives last week?: Arkansas seems to play with passion, they seem to try, and they are conditioned better than they were in the past. But you have to wonder if these kids are hungry enough to put away a game and hit on all cylinders. Were they looking ahead to conference play? Where are they mentally? Are they confused about what offense they’re going to run? Is it the old offense, the new offense or a blend? They seem to be tentative sometimes.
The pick: Arkansas is much superior in talent to Vanderbilt and should win the game handily. However, Arkansas has not been playing up to its abilities. So, look for this game to be close with Arkansas winning in the fourth quarter, 21-14.
