The opening of the Two Rivers Bridge over the Little Maumelle River, linking the River Trail to bike/hike trails in Two Rivers Park, is marred by a property dispute. We learned last week that a real estate partnership, Moore Broadway LLC, has long claimed it has roughly a half-interest in 1.77 acres on which the bridge's north end lands. The city claims it condemned the land in 1976. The owners claim parties to their ownership share weren't notified or compensated and that the city can't take the land without paying them. For now, the city is holding firm that it has possession and owes no further money. The owners say they intend to defend their claim, though no lawsuit has yet been filed. They have indicated they won't attempt to block use of the bridge while the dispute pends. Their share of the land is appraised at roughly $15,000, but the guess is they think it's worth more now with a bridge on it.
