On Saturday, more than 20 authors from across the state will participate in the Arkansas Authors Signing Day from noon to 1 p.m. in the Darragh Center at the Main Library. Participating authors include Phillip McMath, Freeman K. Mobley, Grif Stockley, Trenton Lee Stewart, Steve Whisnant, Maxine Brown, Radine Trees Nehring, Mara Leveritt, John G. Ragsdale and Red Hawk. Comic nerds take note: Huge talent Mitch Breitweiser, an illustrator for Marvel Comics (“Captain America”), will also be participating in the event. The signing is free and open to the public. Grim Muzik, the local rap collective (“Who do's it? Grim Muzik”), asks you to plan this holiday season around its Fourth Annual X-Mas party on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24. The entire Grim family will perform, along with Conduit, Razormack, Dre & Jontai, 501 Records, Tho'D Studios and Combination.
According to Localistmagazine.com, local crooner Christopher Denny recently played a private concert for legendary producer Rick Rubin, who's now also the head of Columbia Records. Rubin apparently liked the music, and told Denny he wanted to hear more from him in the future. This comes on the heels of a record deal offer from Atlantic Records. Denny says he's proceeding cautiously, waiting to find the best opportunity for him and his band.

More details on the “Shotgun Stories” premiere and after-party: The film will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Market Street Cinema. A Q&A with writer/director Jeff Nichols will immediately follow the screening. Thereafter, folks will decamp to Sticky Fingerz, where rock gods Smoke Up Johnny and Ben Nichols, lead singer of the uber-popular roots band Lucero (and Jeff's brother), will perform.
