UAMS Medical Center
Art Auction to Raise Money for Art Therapy in Nursing Homes
This event will be 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7 UAMS’ at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging. All proceeds from this silent and live art auction will be used to start art therapy project in nursing homes in Arkansas. Art therapy has proven to be very stimulating to nursing home residents, particularly those with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. UAMS’ Reynolds Institute on Aging has medical directors in several central Arkansas nursing homes.
Among the Arkansas artists represented in the auction will be J. O. Buckley, Mary Lynn Nelson, Doris Mapes, Sissy Clinton and Austin Grimes. Many of the other auction items were created by nursing home residents, including a piece by noted artist Alice McKee and nine Alzheimer’s patients.
The auction is sponsored by the Arkansas Medical Directors Association, which is made up of nursing home medical directors and staff; the Reynolds Institute on Aging’s Divison of Long-term Care at UAMS; and the Arkansas Heath Care Association.
Parking is available in front of the IOA at West Seventh Street and Jack Stephens Drive.
