The Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame has announced its 2008 inductees. Contemporary country star Joe Nichols joins rock legend Ronnie Hawkins; Oscar nominee Tess Harper; Memphis horn and Stax Records great Wayne Jackson; president of Tribune Broadcasting and former president of Fox News Ed Wilson; the late, pioneering country duo the Wilburn Brothers, and late blues hero Sonny Boy Williamson. Lite rock favorites the Eagles are bringing their “Long Road Out of Eden Tour” to Alltel on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Tickets run $151.75, $96.75, $66.75 and $41.75. CMT will be the exclusive sponsor of the Oxford American’s 10th annual Southern Music Issue. This year’s edition, scheduled to come out in November, will include a double CD of Southern music, with one disc introducing artists the magazine has never covered and the other revisiting songs from musicians featured in past music issues.
Also: In October, the UA Press will release “The Oxford American Book of Great Music Writing,” an anthology of the best from past Southern music issues that includes contributions from R. Crumb, Steve Martin, Roseanne Cash and others and an introduction by Van Dyke Parks.
The American Princes are the latest Arkansas act to record live for daytrotter.com, an online music site that’s become the nexus for live recordings of indie bands of all stripes. The songs, available for download or streaming, are “Watch as They Go,” “Real Love,” “Son of California” and “Still Not Sick of You.”
