MOVIEGOER REVIEW: THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB
I saw "The Jane Austen Book Club" this weekend, and I found it to be delightful. It's sweet and smart and confirms that talking about books (and reflecting on one's life through the eyes of imagined characters) is commercially appealing. The film, directed by Robin Swicord, observes the evolution of a book club intent on reading all of Austen's novels, one month at a time. Sure, it has some chicky moments, but that should not dissuade anyone, especially dudes, from going to see it. Fellas, if you need to find a date, so be it, but the film, on its merits, is absolutely enjoyable, and certainly worth seeing - even if it's alone.
