According to Oscarwatch.com, every year at least one of the nominees by the Cinematographers Guild goes on to receive a Best Picture nomination.  But take a look at this year’s nominees:

“Children of Men”
“The Illusionist”
“Apocalypto”
“The Good Shepherd”
“The Black Dahlia”

“The Illusionist” and “Children of Men” were nominated for a Scripter.  “The Illusionist” picked up a Costume Designers Guild nomination.  “Apocalypto” is a Make-Up finalist.  But none of these films were nominated by the PGA, SAG, DGA or WGA.  None were nominated for a Golden Globe with the exception of “Apocalypto” (Best Foreign Language).  Is this going to be the first year that none of the Cinematographers Guild nominees land in the Best Picture top 5?

I’m holding out hope that “Children of Men” can sneak in.  It’s a super longshot at this point.
