Now might be the perfect time for Fayetteville to attempt “Kennedy Center” style awards show - before Bentonville steals that idea

Yes, most folks are holding hands and singing folk songs as far as the Walton Arts Center goes, but maybe it’s time to start thinking about events to fill up WAC once the Bentonville behemoth (wow, I can use that phrase for more just Wal-Mart) is built.

Does anyone else recall when folks were promised (well, kinda/sorta) that local productions might also take place in the Arts Center? Yeah, never saw much of that, did we, outside of gallery presentations.

Part of the WAC might well be set aside for local theatre productions. We have a number of active theatre groups in Northwest Arkansas, after all.

I’ve written about this particular idea before, and it sank like a rock. But I’ve always thought that Fayetteville should have an awards show, much like the Kennedy Center does in Washington D.C., where the city could honor folks who have brought honor and prestige to Fayetteville.

Folks from all walks of life, honored for all manner of achievements.

I think folks would like this idea.

These are just a couple of ideas. But hey, better to start thinking of them now, before we have this big under-used facility in our midst.
