President Obama: Pardon Jack Johnson!

I’m sorry, but what can they be thinking?

The United States Department of Justice is refusing to support a pardon for boxing great Jack Johnson, who was sent to prison for marrying a white woman. I’m sorry - violating the Mann Act. Yeah, right.

Despite requests from Congressmen John McCain and Peter King, the Justice Department has refused to grant a pardon. Even so, President Obama can still pardon him, if he so chooses.

A century ago, racists were looking for the “Great White Hope” to topple to the first black heavyweight champion of the world.

When that effort failed, the United States government stepped in and ended his run as champion.

It would be the ultimate shame if the Obama administration built upon the work of the racists of the past.

There’s so much comedy on television. Does that cause comedy in the streets? - Dick Cavett

Do you miss him? He sure misses him!

Rumors are rife that a certain former Fayetteville elected official may seek election to the city council - Ward Two.

Though he claimed otherwise, there were cynical folks who felt he was campaigning - for well, something (anything!) almost from the moment he left office last year.

Witnesses to several events have reported him schmoozing and hugging his way through crowds at various events, almost as if he were a spiritual leader just returned from reflection in the wilderness.

Do you miss me? I sure miss me!

When I think about it, though, his verbal missteps, his comically stroking the egos of his supporters  and his  sometimes casual relationship with the truth (I still remember Bottled Watergate) gave me loads to write about - not to mention his constant need for adoration.

Yes, I do miss you, damn it!
