Fayetteville’s Fighting Alderman, Matthew Petty, wrote and let me know that I pulled a boner this week, when I wrote that not everything that he wrote was available to all. It is, actually, for those who may wish to follow the ongoing Petty Odyssey:
Twitter: @mpetty (preferred contact method
None of this deals with the fact that, if you ain’t Twittering you won’t get his comments in real time. If you aren’t linked to the service, you can read them later online.
The point - as so many have emailed me to say - is this:
Comrade Petty isn’t being paid by the city of Fayetteville to be a political commentator during city meetings - he’s being paid to help govern. Petty’s intention to is keep Twitting, however, no matter what others may think.
Cuz he’s like, you know, a trailblazer or something . . .
Obviously, my life took a wrong turn somewhere
It was suggested to me by one of my more strident critics this week that I was a “bigot” for my attitude concerning Twitterdom. I suppose this makes me the modern day equivalent of Bull Connor, or Magnus, Robot Fighter.
Quote of the Day
Life doesn't imitate art, it imitates bad television. - Woody Allen
And now for some real heroes
There is a great website, dedicated to those souls who actually make costumes for themselves and claim to venture out into the night and fight crime, or perform community service - http://www.worldsuperheroregistry.com/
Most of it is pretty silly. There is a wonderful guy, though - Superbarrio Góómez - who organizes labor rallies and protests in Mexico. That’s my kind of hero. To read more about the kind of guy that the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette would write rabid editorials about:
They hide among us
I have long had a theory about world-be super-heroes. I figure that they have ben around as long as there have been comics. Guys putting on bizarre outfits, putting themselves through rigorous martial arts training, studying the Hardy Boys Detective Handbook - and then, one night, they encounter some real life criminals - and get the crap kicked out of them.
