I wish I had known that the nurses were picketing outside WRMC yesterday. This is one picket line that I would gladly have joined. If the accusations the nurses are making are true, that WRMC is replacing experienced nurses with younger, inexperienced nurses, then shame on WRMC.
Some nurses have been terminated, and some have resigned over the past year and a half. The staffing changes occurred mostly in the nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
WRMC simply responded by saying that some of the picketers were “individuals known to be terminated employees,” and were just airing their personal complaints under the excuse of “patient safety.”
This is an old story, of course. From nurses to therapists to reporters to factory workers:
Old and experienced is all too often too expensive, while new and inexperienced is often seen (by those interested only in the bottom line) as just the ticket.
Don’t blame us - it’s a Right to Work State!
The ADG article pointed out that the terminations do not violate the law, since we in Arkansas are blessed to live under a “Right to Work” state. Basically this means that an employer can fire you for any reason at any time.
Still think we don’t need strong unions in Arkansas?
Sarah Palin - Book Banner in Chief?
Want a clear-eyed look at the world that the Sarah Palins of the world would impose upon us - check out “The Handmaid's Tale,” by Margaret Atwood.
Evidently, while mayor of her small town, Palin wanted to look into the possibility of banning certain books from the public library. It never got any further than that, though that in itself is pretty ominous.
The lists making their way on the Internet of the “Books that Sarah Palin wanted to Ban” are bogus.

I get a lot of spam - mostly stuff trying to get me to get me to log onto a site, where no doubt a virus will latch onto my computer. In order to entice me, the emails have a series of headings which can only be described as nonsensical.
This one is my favorite so far, though.
