I’m sort of fascinated by Comrade Huckabee’s attempts to bring “God’s standards" into the United States Constitution, by bringing up amendments to bar gay marriage and abortion. Obviously he doesn’t go far enough; can’t we just ban divorce and pre-marital sex while we are at it? Stoning witches in the public square?
No one seemed to challenge his rancid - and ignorant - bigotry when he trotted out the old nonsense about the “radical” view of marriage extending to people wanting to marry an animal.
We’ve come to expect this sort of nonsense from Huckabee and his ilk, but the fact that the national “media” let it go right over their pretty heads is pretty disgusting.
Can you guys not challenge these candidates on anything?
Help! This press release has too many big words in it!
On the subject on journalists/groupies, I was watching the Huckman talking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer one day this week, explaining that the U.S. shouldn’t try to establish a state religion, while at the same time explaining why we need to have the above-mentioned amendments, so that we can all be in line with “God’s standards.”
The fact that the Huckman was blatantly contradicting himself, or that many religious folk in America have no problem with gay marriage or abortion went right over Blitzer’s head.
Or right through it, as the case may be.
So we now are exposed to the embarrassing spectacle of fawning on-air personalities from CNN, FOX, ABC, MSNBC (well, you get the picture) reaching out desperately for press releases, and swallowing them whole, without even bothering to question whether they are entirely true.
“I understand that in 1964, you and Pia Zadora helped Santa Claus conquer the Martians, Senator/Mayor/Governor. I think Americans everywhere owe you a debt of thanks.”
As if being gullible on a galactic scale weren’t bad enough
And what’s the deal with wishing candidates luck in their primary races? Is there literally no end to the sucking up on the journalistic end on the campaign trail?
Take that, poor people - and there is plenty more where that came from
Taking a walk yesterday, I stopped by a convenience store for a cup of coffee. Pausing by the outside telephone to slip on my gloves, my eye fell upon the rates.
50 cents for five mutes
Say what? Who let this slip by? This just hurts the segment of our society who should be safeguarded against the naked greed of folks like the phone company.
That’s 50 cents for five minutes, even if it is as local call.
