The fall exhibition season opens Friday, Sept. 1, at the University of Central Arkansas's Baum Gallery with an installation by Memphis sculptor Ben Butler
and a group photography show.
"Vertebrates: An Installation"
is site specific to the gallery; in it, Butler includes references to the natural environment and nature's scaffolding. Butler

is a former instructor at Rhodes College and the Memphis College of Art.
An exhibition of Butler's drawings, "Ben Butler: On Paper,"
will be at UCA Downtown, 1105 W. Oak St. The artist will give a talk at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, about his work in McCastlain Hall on the UCA campus, Room 143.
"Equivocal Exposures: Alternative Photographic Processes"
features the work of Kalee Appleton

of Boston and Clive Holde
n of Toronto. Georgia Erger, a former intern at the Baum Gallery, curated. She'll give a talk about the show at 1:40 p.m. Sept. 7.
A news release from UCA quoted Erger as saying the show "presents a number of artists who use photographic processes in innovative and unconventional ways. They expand the boundaries of what we consider to be photography by drawing upon the resources of traditional art forms such as drawing, painting and even sculpture and bookmaking.”
Hours at the Baum Gallery are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
and Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
