1. Careful Creature - "(Oddities)"

If Adam Faucett's taught us anything, it's that Benton is the mother of invention, being just boring enough to drive musicians to the drawing board, or in this case, the ProTools sequencer. Here's a cut from Careful Creature's (Austin Vines) new EP "Oddities," ripe for accompanying your next game of "Portal" or your next LSD trip.

2. Trash Gendar - "Once, Child"

Technically, this isn't Arkansas music, as Gabe Smoller's in Brooklyn these days, but he's a veteran of The Tricks, a whipsmart trio that included current and past members of Bombay Harambee, Alexander Jones and Jason Griswold. Here's the charming opening track, "Birdwatchers," from the band that The Deli Magazine called "the bastard child of Tortoise and Radiohead."

3. Sarah Stricklin - "Isn't Love"

If Trash Gendar left you with the shakes and the jitters, here's an antidote: hot off the presses, a dreamy new track in soft focus from Sarah Stricklin (Bad Match, Late Romantics), "Isn't Love."

4. Ten High - "Pipe Dream"

Fayetteville's Ten High, featured on East Hall Recording's extensive five-volume compilation, has two new songs coming out on a 7" from Greenway Records, so pop the cork, throw some stuff around your bedroom and absorb some of this mania.

Bobby Matthews (formerly of Trusty, Dragoon) and Virginia Ralph have been workshopping their live show for audiences of children and adults in Eureka Springs, and are on the cusp of celebrating that Max Recordings release with a party at the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m. The album, recorded by Jason Weinheimer at Fellowship Hall Sound, comes complete with album art by the ever-inventive Isaac Alexander. Weinheimer and Alexander's children join Bobby and Virginia's daughters to form the album's children's chorus. Check out "Old People Are Cool!" here.
