Ed Stone's son to speak on father's career

Hicks Stone, principal in the firm Stone Architecture LLC of New York and Connecticut, will give the Architecture and Design Network lecture Tuesday, May 10, at the Arkansas Arts Center.

Stone's talk, "Edward Durell Stone: American Modernist," will cover his father's aesthetic and career. Ed Stone, a native of Fayetteville, designed Radio City Music Hall, the Museum of Modern Art and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., among other buildings. He also designed the 1949 construction at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the Fine Arts Building at the UA in Fayetteville and the Pine Bluff Civic Center.

Hicks Stone is the author of "Edward Durell Stone: A Son's Untold Story of a Legendary Architect." Before opening his own firm, he was project manager for Philip Johnson and John Burgee Architects.

The talk starts at 6 p.m. in the lecture hall; there will be a reception beforehand at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
